Visual Display Unit (VDU) Risk Assessments
Also know as Display Screen Equipment (DSE) Risk Assessments are required under the “General Application Regulations 2007” and must be undertaken on all computer workstations where an employee will spend longer than 1 hour per day.
The purpose of the VDU assessment is to assess the current ergonomic layout of the workstation and its compliance with the “General Application Regulations 2007” and to ensure that the user is adequately protected from risk of injury or ill health. Incorrect set up of VDU / DSE work stations can lead to musculoskeletal disorders, repetitive strain injury, visual fatigue and increased stress levels.
The VDU / DSE risk assessment will involve detailed assessment of each individuals work station and will look at the suitability of the following:
- Chairs- Adjustability,
- lumbar support, castors etc
- Keyboard
- Screen
- Desk
- Heating
- Lighting
- Work planning
- Health surveillance(Eye testing, Back care)
- Work Space
