Our manual handling course is designed to cater for the Child Care industry. With this training the trainees will learn the correct lifting and handling techniques for dealing with children.

The training course will last half a day and is specifically designed for people working within the childcare industry such as nurseries, preschools, schools, day care, childminders and any other industry that involves minding children.

If you are unemployed and actively job seeking you may be able to avail of full or partial funding from your Local Employment or FÁS office for training with us.

 

Refreshments will be provided on the day of the course, and we also offer a very modern canteen and free tea/coffee facility.

The Training Centre is located in B2, Centre Point Business Park, Dublin 12 which is convenient to the N7 and M50 and free parking is available.

Our Training Centre is also available for hire (24/7) for training & meetings and is also ideal for small networking events and briefings.

Patient Handling Course Description

 at Guardian safety we have designed a patient handling training course that will instruct the trainees about the theory and practice of safe patient handling. with the use of techniques in relation to safe patient handling our overall aim is to reduce risk of short-term to and long-term injury to either employee or the patient .

 

This course is designed to instruct employees in the theory and practice of safe Patient
handling. To comply with Part 4 Chapter 2 of the “General Application Regulation Regulations 2007, Manual Handling of Loads”, which states that staff engaged in manual handling must be given appropriate training. Safe Patient Handling techniques can reduce the risk of injury to both the employee and the Patient.

 

Patient Handling Course Objectives

On completion of this Patient Handling course participants will be able to:

  • Recognise a load which is too heavy or awkward
  • Understand the limitations of the spine and muscular system
  • Conduct a patient handling risk assessment
  • Lift and handle patients safely.

Patient Handling Course content

  • Dangers of careless and unskilled methods
  • Legislation
  • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment
  • Principles of levers and laws of motion
  • Anatomy of the spine and muscular system
  • How the body is harmed through incorrect patient handling techniques
  • Importance of physical fitness
  • Personal protective equipment
  • Normal patient movement
  • Patient handling aids & techniques

Our Trainers

Guardian Safety is a FETAC registered training provider and all instructors are fully qualified Patient Handling Instructors, having achieved Level 6 in the National Framework of Qualifications.

Manual Handling = Half day,

Who Should Attend

Employees whose work involves the movement or assisting the movements of patients with injury or decreased mobility. This course is suitable for carers and care assistants, First Aiders, healthcare workers, those working in Nursing homes, hospitals and respite centres.

Assessment

Theory test, followed by a practical assessment of safe patient handling.

Refresher Training & Certification Validity Period

Refresher training is recommended at intervals not greater than 3 years.

Additional Information

DVD and laptop/projector presentation are used. Notes on safe Patient Handling are provided for each participant.

Certification

A Guardian Safety Patient Handling Attendance Certificate for is awarded to participants on completion of this course.

Special instructions for this course

Course participants should wear loose fitting comfortable clothing (trousers) and closed toe shoes.

Any special needs /requirements should be identified at time of booking.

FETAC Level 6 Manual Handling Instructor Training Course Description

This FETAC Level 6 Manual Handling Instructors course is designed to provide participants with the knowledge, skill and confidence to design and deliver manual handling instruction in the workplace and to complete manual handling risk assessments as required by Part 4 Chapter 2 of the “General Application Regulation Regulations 2007, Manual Handling of Loads”, which states that staff engaged in manual handling must be given training in the safe manual handling of loads.

Our Trainers

Guardian Safety is a FETAC registered training provider and all our trainers are fully qualified Manual Handling Instructors having achieved Level 6 in the National Framework of Qualifications. All Course instructors hold a Train the Trainer qualification and are fully qualified safety professionals, holding a minimum of a Diploma in Occupational Health and safety

Who Should Attend

Health & Safety Practitioners or trainers who intend to deliver Manual Handling Training.

Those who wish to deliver and certify in-house Manual Handling Training Programmes.

Assessment

Assessment is comprised of three parts, Skills Demonstration (60%), Theory Exam (20%) and Assignment (20%). Participants must pass all three assessments to qualify for award.

Certification

A ‘Manual Handling Instructor FETAC Level 6’ Certificate is awarded to participants on successful completion of course.

Refresher Training & Certification Validity Period

Certificates are valid for 5 years.

Additional Information

DVD and lap/top projector are used. Extensive notes on Safe Manual Handling Instructors Course are available to all participants.

Special Instructions for this Course

Comfortable clothing and closed toe shoes is recommended for this course as there is a high level of practical activity throughout.

Participants are required to have a reasonable level of fitness and flexibility and this course is not suitable for those with any back, hip or knee injuries or those with any condition which may be aggravated by practical lifting.
