FETAC Level 5 Occupational First Aid Training Course Description

On completion of this Occupational First Aid course participants will be able to provide necessary first aid within the workplace, deal with emergencies and implement essential life saving skills (apply CPR and use Automated External Defibrillator) as required by the Safety, Health & Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations 2007.

 FETAC Level 5 Occupational First Aid Course Content

  • First Aid in the workplace: legal requirements and the role of the First Aider       
  • Patient Assessment: Primary survey, vital signs, protecting casualties with suspected neck injuries
  • Respiratory Emergencies
  • Cardiac First Response:  The chain of survival; calling for an ambulance, starting CPR and using a Defibrillator.
  • Wounds and Bleeding: How to deal with blood injuries, how to recognise different types of wounds and how to treat them, minimising the consequences of internal bleeding.
  •  Altered levels of consciousness how to treat shock and the recovery position. Treating a casualty with loss of consciousness.
  •  Musculoskeletal Injuries: Treatment of broken bones, sprains, strains and dislocations.
  •  Burns and scalds, chemicals, electric shock: causes and treatment of burns, electric shock & electrocution, poisoning.

Who Should Attend

Anyone who wishes to train and be certified as an Occupational First Aider.

 Assessment

This is a highly interactive course with emphasis on practice and demonstration. Assessment is by written test and practical skills exam.

                Basic life savings skills 40%
                Examination (short answer question) 30%
                Skills demonstration (x 2) 30%

 Certification

An “Occupational First Aid FETAC Level 5” certificate is awarded to participants on successful completion of course.

 Refresher Training / Certification Validity Period

Occupational First Aid certificate is valid for 2 years and can be renewed on completion of a 1 day refresher course.

 Additional Information

DVD and lap/top projector are used. Notes on Occupational First Aid are available to all course participants. A full range of occupational first aid equipment is utilised as part of this training.

FETAC Level 4 Food Hygiene Course Description

This Food Hygiene Training course is designed to give all participants a greater understanding of their responsibilities as required by ISO 340/341/342 and requirements laid down by the Food Safety Authority and is knowledge of the contents is mandatory for all personnel working in the food sector.

Our Trainers

Guardian Safety is a FETAC registered training Provider and all instructors are fully qualified trainers having achieved Level 6 in the national Framework of Qualifications. All course instructors are qualified Food Safety and hold a minimum of Train the Trainer Qualification.

Who Should Attend

This Food Hygiene course is designed for Food Handlers, catering staff in hotels, hospitals, nursing homes and retail sectors.

A “FETAC Level 4 Certificate in Food Hygiene” is awarded to participants who successfully complete this course.

 Refresher Training & Certification Validity Period

It is recommended to refresh training at intervals not greater than 3 years.

Who Should Attend

Any-one who’s work includes Manual Handling activities i.e. the transporting or supporting of loads that includes lifting, putting down, pushing, pulling, carrying or moving of heavy or awkward loads, where those activities are likely to lead to back injury.

Manual Handling Training Course Description    

This course is designed to instruct employees in the theory and practice of safe manual handling. To comply with Part 4 Chapter 2 of the “General Application Regulation Regulations 2007, Manual Handling of Loads”, which states that staff engaged in manual handling must be given training in the safe manual handling of loads.

 Manual Handling Training Course Objectives

On completion of this Manual Handling course participants will be able to:

  •  Recognise a load which is too heavy or awkward
  •  Understand the limitations of the spine and muscular system
  •  Conduct a manual handling risk assessment
  •  Lift and handle loads safely.
  •  Dangers of careless and unskilled methods
  •  Manual Handling Legislation,Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment
  •  Principles of levers and laws of motion
  •  Anatomy of the spine and muscular system
  •  How the body is harmed through incorrect manual handling techniques
  •  Importance of physical fitness
  •  Personal Protective equipment
  •  How to handle loads safely
  •  Practice in safe manual handling of loads to include:-
      • Lifting to and from ground level
      • Lifting to and from a height
      • Pushing
      • Pulling
      • Lifting bags/sacks or other loads appropriate to
        the workplace

  Course Duration 3 hrs   Participants per course    Maximum of 12 participants

Assessment

Theory test, followed by a practical assessment of safe manual handling lifting.

 Special Instructions For This Course

Course participants should wear loose fitting comfortable clothing (trousers) and

Our newly opened Training Centre located only minutes from the N7 & M50 is now available to Trainers  and instructors for hire at competitive rates.

We have two training rooms equipped with AV equipment, each room can accommodate up to 20 per room in classroom or boardroom layout but can easily accomodate more for briefings.

We also have an onsite cafe and there is free parking available.  For those who wish to hold classes in Patient care / home nursing or care giving, we also have a dedicated Patient room.

The Training Centre can be hired 24/7  on a daily / half day or hourly basis.

We are a FETAC registered Training Centre.
